What We Do
Open Spaces
We manage many local open spaces that are owned by the village, such as the common (conservation), the market place, the Chalk Pit. This involves looking after many of the beautiful Trees with Tree Preservation orders.
Bins, Benches & Bus shelters
We provide litter bins and dog poo bins. We will provide benches and seating in our opens spaces and bus shelters at Bus Stops.
Children’s Play Areas
We manage the two children’s play areas on Lodge Walk and Church Road.
Allotments
We work in conjunction with Snettisham Allotment Association to provide village allotments on the Bircham Road.
Street Lighting
We are responsible for some street lights (but not all – its’ complicated). That said we own most of the street lights.
Grass Cutting & Gardening
We organise grass cutting and gardening services, including some tree maintenance, for village green areas.
Traffic
Traffic issues, such as traffic calming measures (but the Highways Dept at Norfolk County Council hold most of the powers). We need their agreement on most issues.
Planning
Kings Lynn & West Norfolk Borough Council are the planning authority and they make all the decisions. However we must be consulted. We comment on planning applications in the village and give our recommendations to the Borough.
Grants & Donations
We consider and give out grants or donations to local groups and initiatives that benefit Snettisham or the people of Snettisham.
Projects
We will seek funding from the Community Infrastructure Levy (known as the CIL) and other Funding organisations, to improve facilities in the village.
What we don’t do
Memorial Hall & Pavilion
The village hall and it’s functions, finances and facilities (including the recreation field and the Pavilion) are not managed by the Parish Council. The Memorial Hall, recreation field and Pavilion are managed by a Board of Trustees which operate as a village charity. For more details on the charity and it’s purpose, finances and trustees, see Charity Commission.
Roads/Potholes
Norfolk County Council are responsible for repairing most of the smaller roads and pavements, although Highways England are responsible for trunk roads. See button with a link to report a problem at Norfolk County Council
Beach Car Park
The Car Park at the Beach does not belong to the Parish Council. The land is private land owned by the Ken Hill Estate. The car park is operated by a private contractor called Napier Parking. The Council has no influence in parking costs, tickets or fines. Please contact Wild Ken Hill or contact Napier Parking direct.
Parking & Traffic
The Parish Council is not responsible for traffic issues are parking. Those issues remain the responsibility for the Highways dept at County Council or the Police

Street lighting on some of the more major roads are managed by Norfolk County Council and Highways England
Flooding
The Water companies and the Environment agency have the obligation and powers for most waterways.
Education
