Wow what a year for growth this year !  All that rain early in the spring has caused a surge in the growth of the grass and the hedgerows.

So who’s responsible for what? (it’s complicated)

We are responsible for some of the grass cutting, but so are Kings Lynn & West Norfolk Borough Council and Norfolk County Council. The Norfolk County Council are responsible for most of the grassed areas and verges. See the latest map we have, showing the areas of responsibility for the Borough and County Councils.

Norfolk County Council

As the highways authority, Norfolk County Council are responsible for most of the grassed areas and verges in the village. As the Highways authority they have a duty to keep the highway safe and free from obstructions. This includes long grass and over grown heads and verges. Snettisham Parish Council

The Parish Council is only responsible for the grass cutting and verges on it’s land within the parish. But not all land within the parish boundary is actually owned by the Parish Council. There is a great deal of land that is privately owned. We are responsible for the:

• Play areas at Church Road
• Open spaces such as the Orchard at the rear of Mallard/ Goosander  Close and the Community Garden at Shelduck Drive
• The raised beds at Hall Road and top of Southgate lane
• The roundabout at Alma  Road/ Lynn Road
• Area with the seat over the new bridge
• Southgate Lane (although not owned by the parish Council, we agreed to maintain it)
• Around the picnic benches at the Common

Kings Lynn & West Norfolk Borough Council
