Parking Pilot Scheme

🚗 Snettisham Parking – 6-Month Pilot

The Parish Council is introducing a 6-month pilot scheme aimed at improving parking in Snettisham Market Place.
Part of the problem currently, is that vehicles belonging to staff of village businesses, are parked in the Market Place most of the day and do not move. This can make it difficult for visitors and residents to find a space for quick visits to the centre.

As part of the pilot, the Parish Council is now renting the Pavilion Car park Monday to Friday 7am-7pm and are introducing a permit parking scheme. We are working with local businesses to to provide their staff with a Pavilion Car Park permit to discourage them parking in the Market Place all day.

In relation to the Market Place, the intention is to introduce a 90-minute maximum stay in the Market Place, with no return within 2 hours. This should help to keep spaces turning over throughout the day, making it easier for people to park for shorter visits.

The two schemes are therefore linked:

➡️ Market Place – short-stay parking to encourage regular turnover of spaces.

➡️ Pavilion Car Park – permits for staff who need to park while they are working in the village.

This is a pilot scheme for 6 months. We know there is no simple solution to parking in the village and we cannot guarantee that the scheme will solve all of the problems. The purpose of the pilot is to see whether this approach makes a practical difference.
We will monitor how the scheme works and review it during the pilot before deciding what, if anything, should happen next.
We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and, particularly, the support of local businesses and their staff in helping us to make the scheme work.
Our aim is simple – to keep parking spaces moving so that residents have a better chance of finding a parking space when they need to visit the centre of the village.

The signage for the schemes are presently being installed.

The Old Store
We are aware of the other issues around The Old Store, and we are working with Highways and the Borough to introduce a TRO (Traffic Regulation Order) to prevent parking in front of the Old Store. This is a very lengthy process, but it is already
